Hello, Im Shako I am a UX/UI Designer, a Photographer and America's favorite Congolese.
"The subject is so much more important than the photographer."
As a photographer, this simple statement has been one of the hardest lessons I had to learn and relearn but is arguably the most rewarding. Truth be told, I wanted to become a famous photographer! So I spent countless hours and significant amount of money on working on my technique and my photographic style - looking back I'm not even sure how I could afford to pay for it, and no I didn't swipe it on a credit card.
However, as time went on, photography taught me to speak the language of "We." When I learned to speak in "we," instead of "my idea! I did this, I did that" I noticed an improvement on my work, my team and concepts. The same can be said about experience design where the truism " the user is more important than techniques, the technology, and designer" has become my true north star. Don't get me wrong, at times I still struggle to keep my ego in check, but these mantras serve as a guiding light which helps me to become a better designer and play a small part in making the world better.
